In short
- Enter your wall length, its age and how long you expect it to last. The planner shows years left, a replacement range and what to set aside each month.
- The cost uses our published planning range of $400 to $900 per linear foot for a full replacement. You can override it with a quote.
- We publish no single lifespan figure, so you enter the service life. Ask a contractor or engineer what it is based on.
- It is a planning estimate, not a quote.
This seawall replacement savings planner for Cape Coral works out how much to put aside each month so a canal-front wall can be replaced without a surprise bill. It divides the replacement cost, minus what you have saved, by the time you have left. Cost comes from the seawall replacement cost guide. Want the cost alone? Use the seawall cost calculator. How the planner works out the numbers
- Years left
Expected service life minus current age. If it is zero or negative, the wall is at or past your expected life and you should get it inspected.
- Replacement cost
Length times your low and high cost per foot, shown as a range. Prices are in today's dollars.
- Still to save
Cost minus what you have already set aside. With a yearly rate, your existing savings are assumed to grow too.
- Monthly and yearly amount
The remainder spread evenly over the months you plan to save.
Watch out: the planner leaves out inflation, dock or lift work, permits and a contingency. Our cost guide says marine prices have moved a lot in recent years, so a plan built on today's range can fall short. Treat the high end as the safer target.
What the planner leaves out
- Price changes. Costs are in today's dollars, so saving the low figure may not be enough in 10 years.
- Tall walls, poor access and extra engineering. Our cost guide says these can land outside the range.
- Dock, lift and davit work, caps, tiebacks and restoration. Ask each contractor to itemize them, as in the bid comparison worksheet.
- Taxes on interest and account fees. Neither is modeled, and this is not financial advice.
Permits come before the first shovel
Canal seawall work in Cape Coral generally needs a permit, and some projects also involve state or federal review. Our seawall permits guide covers the rules and who to contact. Confirm the current requirements with the City of Cape Coral before you plan dates. For the process end to end, see the replacement timeline.
When to stop saving and start collecting quotes
A fund is a plan, not a diagnosis. If you see sinkholes behind the wall, leaning, or cracking, read seawall failure signs and have the wall looked at now. The question of fixing versus replacing is in repair vs replacement.
We are an independent referral service, not a contractor. When you are ready for real prices, use the request form on this page to ask independent licensed local marine contractors for written quotes, and read how to choose a seawall contractor first.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the cost per foot come from?
From the planning range on our seawall replacement cost guide: roughly $400 to $900 per linear foot for a full replacement of a typical residential canal wall. You can override it with a written quote.
How long will my seawall last?
We publish no single number. Our materials guide says well-built walls are often discussed as lasting decades, and that embedment, soil, drainage and upkeep matter more than material. Enter your own figure and ask a contractor or engineer for the basis of theirs.
Does the planner include permits, dock work or inflation?
No. It covers the wall at the cost per foot you enter. Permits, dock or lift work, price changes and a contingency are extra, so aim for the high end of the range.
Can I use it if my wall is already older than its expected life?
Yes. Enter how many years you want to save over, but have the wall inspected first. Age alone does not tell you the condition.
Where are the Cape Coral permit rules?
On our seawall permits guide, which says seawall work generally needs a permit and to confirm current requirements with the City of Cape Coral before work starts.
